On the other hand, in a written reply to a question by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Narayan Rane said that an online survey conducted in August last year had covered about 5,744 MSMEs in 32 states and Union Territories, which found that 91 percent of them were working while 9 percent were closed due to covid-19. Also asked about the alarming increase in the number of suicides by MSME business owners, Narayan Rane said, "According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total of 9,052 business owners committed suicide in 2019, while in 2020 the number increased to 11,716. '
