Former Karnataka Assembly Speaker and Congress MLA KR Ramesh Kumar has recently made highly objectionable and insensitive remarks about women. In fact, he has publicly said in the Assembly that when rape cannot be prevented, lie down and have fun. Most surprisingly, assembly speaker, Visveswar Hegde Kageri laughed at the Congress MLA's remarks instead of objecting to it. Yes, it is the case of the Assembly where the MLAs were demanding a discussion and debate on the floods in Karnataka and the damage caused to crops.

Meanwhile, there was a hue and cry in the Assembly over it. The Speaker tried to convince the MLAs but the ruckus was not going to subside. Speaker Hegde said, "Ramesh Kumar, you know, now I feel that I should enjoy this situation. I have decided that I will not try to stop anyone and handle the situation now. You have a discussion. When he said this, Congress MLA Ramesh Kumar said, 'There is an old saying. Lie down and have fun when rape cannot be prevented. That is exactly what you are in now. Ramesh Kumar is now badly engulfed in the controversial remarks. Recently, women MLAs of his own party have launched a front against him. In fact, Congress MLA Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar shared a video of the same on social media and demanded an apology from the House to the women. Besides him, another Congress MLA Soumya Reddy has also said that it is not right. There is a need to apologize.

With this, activist Brinda Adige said on this remark, 'How shameful such things are in the assembly where only women voters have sent them. Do they not know that rape is the most heinous, brutal, and violent crime against women? Our demand from the state president of the Karnataka Congress is that the MLA should be suspended and he should not be given ticket so that he cannot stand in the election. All this is not acceptable in a democracy. Well, this is not the first time that Ramesh Kumar has made such an insensitive remark.

He had said in 2019 that he felt like a 'rape victim'. He had said, "My situation has become like a rape victim. Rape happens once. If you leave it there, it passes there. But when you complain that you have been raped, the accused is put in jail. His lawyers ask how this happened. When did it happen and how many times did it happen? Rape takes place once but it happens 100 times in court. That is my position.''
