New Delhi: The Congress on Monday said PM Narendra Modi should respond to the "scam" and be investigated under the supervision of the Supreme Court over alleged corruption in a land deal involving the Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirthkshetra Trust. Party chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also requested the Supreme Court to conduct an audit of the amount and expenditure received as donations for temple construction under the aegis of the court and also to examine the price of all the land purchased from the donation. He told the press that "Lord Ram is a symbol of faith. But the misuse and fraud of donations raised from crores of people for the construction of Sri Ram Temple in lord Ram's supernatural Ayodhya city is a great sin and gross iniquity, including BJP leaders". Surjewala claimed, "Anil Mishra, trustee of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirthkshetra Trust, is present as a witness on both the documents of the land registry. The second witness on both the papers is BJP chief leader and Ayodhya mayor Rishikesh Upadhyay. This clearly means that the trustees of rammandir nirman trust were fully aware of the decision to buy land worth Rs 2 crore in five minutes for Rs 18.5 crore". Surjewala further said, "The Trust for construction of Shri Ram Temple was constituted on 5th February, 2020 as directed by the Supreme Court. From the above facts, it is clear that there has been a gross sin, iniquity and scam in the donations made by crores of people for the construction of Ram Mandir. But PM Modi is completely silent".
