CHENNAI: The DMK has slammed the Congress for the recent election catastrophe in the five states. The party mouthpiece 'Murasoli' wrote in an editorial on Monday that the Congress's sluggishness in bringing other opposition groups into its fold was the reason for its defeat in the polls. The editorial further stated that opposition unity was necessary to depose the BJP from power at the federal level. The DMK's political position is reflected in the position of the party mouthpiece, and this is the first time the party has taken a firm stance against an ally. The editorial cited Priyanka Gandhi's declaration before the elections that the Congress was willing to join with any party save the BJP, claiming that the Congress did not do so and so lost the election. In an editorial criticising the BJP, Murasoli stated that the BJP won the elections because of its divisive and sectarian tactics, and that the BJP was only able to increase its vote share by 2% in Uttar Pradesh, while the Samajwadi Party was able to grow its vote share by 10%. The party's mouthpiece said that if the SP, BSP, and Congress had cooperated in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP would have been vanquished. According to political observers, the DMK wants Congress to lead the charge in forming an anti-BJP coalition for the 2024 general elections.
