Thiruvananthapuram: A day after reports surfaced that the Pinarayi Vijayan government in Kerala had appointed special officers to acquire land for the now-controversial Silver Line (K-Rail), a state-of-the-art joint venture between the Indian Railways and the State Government, the Congress-led UDF warned Vijayan not to proceed with the project. "K-Rail will be Kerala's "Nandigram," and what occurred to the CPI-M in West Bengal will repeat itself here. We warn Vijayan that the Congress-led UDF will not allow this project to proceed at any cost. Kerala will soon witness unprecedented protests against this unworkable proposal. We've been asking questions about this project but haven't received any responses. Whatever it takes, we will not approve this project because it will be the state's undoing. Vijayan has displayed undue haste in completing this project "V.D. Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition, remarked Satheesan was speaking at a day-long rally in Kundara, some 70 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram, organised by Kollam Lok Sabha member N.K. Premachandran and other UDF leaders to protest Vijayan's decision to proceed with land acquisition for the project. This is also one of Vijayan's pet projects, which, if completed, will create a 529.45-kilometer corridor between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod. At a speed of 200 kilometres per hour, a semi-high-speed train will be able to cross this route in less than four hours.
