Kochi: The cupboards of the Sabarimala temple have once again been closed due to heavy rains in Kerala. The administration has postponed the Sabarimala yatra for Saturday in view of the waterlogging and possible threats caused by the rains. Devotees have been asked not to visit the Sabarimala temple in the Pathanamthitta district on Saturday. The administration says the water level of The Pamba Dam has reached above the danger mark as the Pamba river is in spate.

The water level in The Kakki-Anathode reservoir has also reached the danger mark. An order has been issued by Pathanamthitta district collector Divya S Iyer that pilgrimage to Pamba and Sabarimala will be banned on Saturday. The district administration said the Pamba, considered to be the holy river, is in spate. A red alert has also been sounded over the Pamba dam. The administration said a red alert has also been issued for the Kakki-Anathode reservoir. An order issued by district collector Divya S Iyer on Friday said, 'To ensure the safety of devotees, it is declared that pilgrimage to Pamba and Sabarimala is prohibited tomorrow (20.11.2021).'

He said devotees who have booked slots for visits will be given the opportunity to 'visit' in the nearest possible slot when the weather improves. Given the bad weather and coronavirus situation, hundreds of devotees are trekking on the hills to worship at the Ayyappa temple. The temple gates for the two-month annual Mandalam-Makarvilakku pilgrimage season were opened on November 16.
