New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has convened a meeting of the party's working committee on December 21 to discuss the current political situation in the country, as reported by media. The Congress Working Committee is expected to deliberate on recent election setbacks, the breach of parliament, and other pertinent issues. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, a day before the conclusion of the winter session of parliament. Sources, as reported by media, indicate that the primary agenda of the meeting will be to formulate a strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. With approximately four months remaining until the crucial elections, the Congress party aims to regain its political standing. In the recent assembly elections across five states, the Congress lost power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and faced challenges in Madhya Pradesh. The party successfully formed a government in Telangana, defeating KCR's Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS). In Mizoram, the BJP secured two seats, while the Congress won only one. Additionally, the meeting, scheduled two days after the I.N.D.I.A bloc meeting on December 19, is expected to focus on seat sharing, campaign strategies, and the likelihood of a yatra led by Rahul Gandhi ahead of the 2024 polls, emphasizing issues like unemployment and price rise. The meeting may also explore the possibility of a yatra, this time adopting an east-to-west mode, as a part of Rahul Gandhi's pre-2024 election activities. On December 19, leaders of the I.N.D.I.A bloc will convene for the first time since the election results were announced on December 3 and 4. The meeting is likely to address future agendas, internal disagreements, and the crucial matter of seat sharing. Parties within the bloc plan to advance with the unity theme "Main Nahin, Hum" (We, Not Me) to counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a senior Congress leader.
