The Delhi government has announced that construction workers will receive free bus passes. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced Wednesday that the Kejriwal government has decided to issue free bus passes to construction workers in Delhi for their daily commute. At a celebration organised at the Delhi Secretariat, Sisodia handed out free permits to certain construction workers. "In Delhi, 10 lakh workers have been registered," he said. The Kejriwal government provided Rs 600 crore to 10 lakh registered workers (under various welfare schemes) in the last year, the biggest sum distributed to workers in the country." Sisodia advised the workers to spend the money they would save due to free bus passes being made on their families and not waste it on anything else. Masons, painters, welders, carpenters, and crane operators are among the construction workers. Sisodia spoke with some of the recipients, who informed him that they used to spend hundreds of rupees each month on transportation to and from work.
