Controversial Claim: BJP Supporters Allegedly Burn 300-Year-Old Church in Manipur - Watch Video!

Imphal: Amidst the ongoing violence in Manipur, a video is becoming increasingly viral on social media, in which a church-like building is seen on fire. The viral post is claiming that this church is in Manipur, where a 300-year-old church was set ablaze by BJP men. This video is being shared indiscriminately from the Twitter handle of former Governor Satya Pal Malik, a staunch critic of PM Narendra Modi and Congress supporters.

Also, the caption is also written in the same way in most of the posts. The caption accompanying this video reads, '#Manipur Sugnu Imphal. Violence is not stopping, arson, pro-BJP militants destroyed more than 300 years old St. Joseph's Church lit. Manipur has been burning since 73 days and Prime Minister Modi is roaming abroad, I have never seen such a shameless and shameless Prime Minister!'

At the same time, when we searched its screenshots on Google reverse image to know the truth of this video. So this screenshot was found in a news published on July 7 on the website of France 3, a well-known French TV channel. It was written in the news that, 'L'Eglise Notre-Dame-de Drosne, a historic wooden-built church in Marne, France, broke out in a fire and the building collapsed shortly after. The cause of the fire was not known.

Apart from this, we also found the same picture on French news website bfmtv.com. According to the news published here, this church is located in Marne, France and its name is L'Eglise Notre-Dame-de Drosne. Thus, the claim that 'BJP supporters burnt a 300-year-old church in Manipur' is completely false and will create enmity among people. Manipur has been witnessing violence since the ethnic conflict between the Meitai and Kuki communities on May 3. According to reports, so far more than 100 people have lost their lives due to this violence. The main reason for the violence is the demand of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status by the Meitais, who constitute about 52 per cent of Manipur's population, for their convenience, which is strongly opposed by the Christian Kuki community. After considering the demand of the Meitei community, the Manipur High Court had given them ST status, but due to the opposition of the Kuki extremists, the violence in Manipur still continues.
