Bengaluru: Amidst the ongoing hijab controversy in Karnataka, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from the state, MP Renukacharya, made a controversial statement on Wednesday, saying that rape cases are increasing because some of the clothes worn by women 'incite' men. We do. The BJP MLA, realizing that his statement might create a ruckus, later said that he would apologize to the women if his statement had hurt women.

Let us inform that on this issue, Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi tweeted that, 'Whether it is bikini, veil, jeans or hijab, women have the right to decide what to wear. This right has been given to them by the Indian Constitution. Stop harassing women.' Responding to Priyanka's tweet, the BJP MLA said, 'Priyanka Gandhi is a woman, a Congress leader... we are not questioning the fundamental rights of women (on hijab issue).'

He said, 'The Kerala and Mumbai High Courts have said that dress is mandatory in schools and colleges, the government has also said the same. The use of the word bikini (dress) for girl students should be avoided. While talking to the media in New Delhi, the BJP MLA said that, 'While studying in college, students should wear such clothes which cover their whole body. Cases of rape are increasing because some clothes worn by women 'incite' men, which is not right, because women are respected in our country. We respect her like a mother.
