Gayatri Prajapati, minister in Akhilesh government, sentenced to life imprisonment

Lucknow: Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, who handled important ministries like transport, mining and irrigation in the Samajwadi Party (SP) government, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the MP MLA Special Court in the famous gang rape case of Chitrakoot. Along with Prajapati, other convicts in the case Ashish Shukla and Ashok Tiwari have also been sentenced to life imprisonment. The court also imposed an economic fine of Rs 2 lakh each on the three convicts.

Gayatri Prajapati was earlier convicted of gang rape by a Lucknow court on November 10. He was convicted by Lucknow's MP MLA Special Court in the gang-rape case of a woman from Chitrakoot. He was accompanied by accomplices Ashok Tiwari and Ashish Shukla, who were found guilty in the gang rape. On the other hand, Vikas Verma, Rupeshwar, Amarendra Singh, Pintu and Chandrapal were acquitted by the court.

Gayatri Prasad Prajapati was accused by a woman of gang-raping her minor daughter after being drugged when she reached her house to meet the former minister. He also threatened to kill someone if she told anyone. A case was registered under the POCSO Act and an 824-page charge sheet was filed. Later, during the court hearing, Gayatri Prajapati was found guilty on the basis of 17 witnesses and a police charge sheet.
