New Delhi: India reported 16,906 new COVID infections in the last 24 hours, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Wednesday. This is an increase of 3291 infections as compared to Tuesday. On Tuesday, the nation reported 13,615 -new COVID cases. The number of active cases in the nation has increased to 1,32,457. During this time, the infection claimed up to 45 patients. The nation has experienced 5,25,519 fatalities. The Ministry reports that 4,30,11,8747 people have recovered nationwide since the start of the epidemic, including 15,447 COVID patients who made a full recovery in the past 24 hours. At present, the recovery rate is 98.49%. 4,59,302 COVID tests were performed in the past 24 hours, out of the 86.77 crore tests that have been administered in the nation thus far. The overall weekly positivity rate is 4.26 percent, with the daily positivity rate being 3.68 percent. In the past 24 hours, 11,15,068 COVID vaccines have been given as part of the national vaccination campaign. So far, 1,99,12,79,010 vaccinations have been administered. In the new phase of the universalization of the COVID-19 vaccination drive, the central Government will procure and supply 75 percent of the vaccines, free of cost, being produced by the vaccine manufacturers in the country to States and UTs.
