Covid-19: Pfizer vaccine’s emergency use is approved by Indonesia

JAKARTA : Indonesia's Food and Drug Authority has issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine amid a spike in cases as the more contagious Delta variant is spreading in the country, an official said.

The drug Authority has issued the emergency use authorization for the vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech with the mRNA platform," said the Authority's head Penny K. Lukito at a virtual press conference on Thursday, as reported by the media.  Indonesia has an agreement to procure 50 million doses of Pfizer vaccine throughout 2021. The country has so far given emergency authoritation approvals to five Covid-19 vaccine producers, namely Sinovac, Sinopharm, Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca.

Covid Roundup: Indonesia recorded on Thursday 56,757 new cases, the highest since the pandemic hit the country for the first time in March last year, bringing the total tally to 2,726,803. The death toll stood at 69,210. The other worst countries with over 3 million cases are Brazil (19,262,518), France (5,895,437), Russia (5,810,335), Turkey (5,507,455), the UK (5,300,971), Argentina (4,719,952), Colombia (4,583,442), Italy (4,278,319), Spain (4,069,162), Germany (3,748,379) and Iran (3,464,055), the CSSE figures showed.
