THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With reports of Covid-19 clusters forming at the Kerala state secretariat, state-owned road transport corporations and police stations, the Kerala state is on high alert agaisnt the pandemic. State Health Minister Veena George said that whereas daily cases in the state were only 1,824 on December 26, they had risen to 22,000 on Monday, indicating a significant increase. The total number of active cases increased to 1,21,458 on Monday, as did the daily test positivity rate, which hit a new high of 33%. On Tuesday, it was reported that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's office is partially closed, and a number of his employees, including his political secretary, have tested Covid positive. In addition, state Education Minister V. Sivankutty received a positive test on Tuesday and is presently being treated in a private facility. Sivankutty participated actively in the CPI-M district convention in Thiruvananthapuram, which finished a few days ago. Positive cases have been recorded in the offices of numerous Ministers in the State Secretariat, with the latest news on Tuesday stating that there were 72 positive cases, leading employees to write to Chief Minister Vijayan to ensure that something is done.
