Cyber fraud through fake KYC links, 2 arrested in Telangana

HYDERABAD: Two people were detained for cyber fraud after they allegedly duped people by giving fake KYC links to update bank accounts, Telangana Police said on Friday.

The accused were identified as Bhagwan Sahya Sharma hailing from Jaipur, and Sachin Saini, also a resident of Jaipur, said Rachakonda Commissionerate.

The complainant said that he received a text message saying, "Dear SBI user, your SBI Net banking will be blocked today. Please click here quickly (by providing the link) and update your PAN CARD," which was the basis for the Commissionerate's declaration. He clicked on the provided link after reading the paragraph and entering all of his information, including his PAN card, date of birth, username for internet banking, and password. He then received a number of OTPs. 

He lost an amount of Rs 4,99,989 when he entered the same in the link "  The accused also got a call from an unidentified number pretending to be SBI customer service, asking him to install the "Quick Support app" and offering to reimburse the money if he completed his "KYC." Following the App's installation, he lost Rs 3,99,979 once more. Consequently, he defrauded the victim of Rs. 8,99,968 "Added was a police statement.

The accused, who reside in Karmatanr, Jamtara, Jharkhand, were acting remotely by sending a number of links to trusting individuals, it was discovered during the police inquiry.

"The Jayshree Pay and Razor Pay payment gateways were used to process the credit card's balance. The A1 and A2 also took out the cash and put it in their own bank accounts, "The statement read.

Based on the technological evidence collected throughout the investigation, the team visited Jaipur where they detained the suspects, transported them to Hyderabad on a transit remand, and then placed them in judicial custody. Three cell phones, six credit cards, four debit cards, one voter ID, and Rs 50,000 were all taken by the police.
