Jammu: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will leave for Jammu and Kashmir today on a one day visit. The Defence Minister will pay homage to the 20th anniversary of Operation Vijay by visiting the Kargil War Memorial in Dras on Saturday. At the same time, two bridges constructed by the Border Roads Organisation in Ujj (one kilometer long) and Basantar (617.4 m long) in Samba district will be dedicated to the nation. Rajnath will return to Jammu after the inauguration of the bridges and leave for Delhi in the evening. Rajnath Singh will be on his first visit to Jammu as Defence Minister. Earlier, he had gone to Kashmir and Ladakh on the 3rd of June. During the visit, 14 Corps of Army located at Leh along with Siachen Glacier and 15th Corps Headquarters in Srinagar also visited. He will be accompanied by Army Chief General Bipin Rawat. They will review the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh as well as take stock of anti-terrorist operations. On the 20th anniversary of the Kargil victory, Delhi was given a victory torch by the Defence Minister to the Army's best marksman Subedar Jitu Rai at the National War Memorial on July 14. The torch will pass through nine major towns and cities in North India and finally reach the martyrs' work ground at Kargil in Dras on July 26, where it will be received by the Army Chief. On the same day, President Ram Nath Kovind will pay homage to the martyred jawans.
