NEW DELHI: Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has announced that the new Terminal 1 (T1) will open to the public on August 17, 2024. This new terminal, part of the Phase 3A expansion project and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 10, 2024, marks a significant upgrade for the airport. In preparation for the terminal’s opening, DIAL has coordinated with airlines IndiGo and SpiceJet. Starting August 17, SpiceJet will move 13 of its flights to Terminal 1, while IndiGo will shift 34 flights from Terminals 2 and 3 to T1 beginning September 2. Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL, commented, “We are excited to launch Terminal 1 on August 17, 2024. This state-of-the-art facility will enhance our capacity and reduce the strain on Terminals 2 and 3, offering passengers an improved travel experience with better amenities and technology.” Terminal 1 has been closed since June 28, with IndiGo and SpiceJet operating from Terminals 2 and 3. Passengers have been receiving updates about flight schedule changes and terminal relocations. Previously, Terminal 1 managed an average of 200 flights daily. Flight Departure and Arrival Instructions: SpiceJet Passengers: Enter through Entry Gate A on the ground floor. IndiGo Passengers: Use Entry Gates 5 and 6 on the first floor. All Arrivals: Follow signs to the dedicated arrivals area on the ground floor. To assist passengers, DIAL has installed clear signage and road markings. RAXA guards will be stationed to provide guidance. For arrivals, passengers will use the same route to exit the terminal. Facilities at Terminal 1: The expansion project, initiated in 2019, was designed to meet growing air traffic and passenger demands. Terminal 1 now features several advanced amenities: Queue-Buster Mobile Check-in Service: Helps passengers avoid long lines at check-in counters. Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) and Individual Carrier System (ICS): Streamline baggage handling. Common Usage Self Service (CUSS) kiosks and Self Baggage Drop (SBD) counters: Facilitate easy check-in. Expanded baggage reclaim carousels and multiple entry gates: Enhance convenience. Shop and Dine facilities: Offer a range of dining and shopping options. Additional amenities: Include a Prayer Room, Yoga area, Quiet zone, Group seating, Laptop and mobile charging stations, a self-medication room, Baby Care rooms, and smart washrooms. The new Terminal 1 aims to provide a world-class travel experience and accommodate the increasing passenger volume effectively.
