INX Media case: Delhi High Court to hear P Chidambaram's bail plea tomorrow

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court will hear on Monday the bail plea of former Union Minister and veteran Congress leader P Chidambaram in the CBI case related to INX Media rigging. Earlier in the last hearing, the High Court had issued a notice to the CBI on Chidambaram's bail plea and asked him to respond.

After this, the CBI filed a reply in the High Court. Opposing Chidambaram's bail, the CBI had said that if Chidambaram gets bail, then the wrong message will go in corruption cases and this is a clear case of betraying the trust of Awam. Earlier, the court had also accepted the application filed by Chidambaram. These included a cot with Z-class security, a separate cell with bathroom and permission for medicines.

He also demanded a western-style toilet (English toilet) in the jail. At the same time, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram received a big blow from the Supreme Court in the ED case. The court rejected Chidambaram's anticipatory bail plea. On behalf of the ED in the apex court, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had opposed Chidambaram's anticipatory bail saying that if the Congress leader was granted anticipatory bail, it would have disastrous consequences.
