Shahdara fire: Building owner and his nephew arrested, 4 died in the fire

New Delhi: A 50-year-old man and his nephew have been arrested in connection with a fire in Delhi's Shahdara. Four members of a family lost their lives due to the fire. Police said the arrested accused have been identified as Atma Ram Goel and Manoj Goel (26 years old).

A house in Floor Market area caught fire on Tuesday midnight due to leakage of LPG gas cylinder, killing Munni Devi, her two sons Om Prakash (22) and Naresh (23) besides daughter Sunita (18), while a son Lal Chand (29) suffered severe burns. The police officer said the building belonged to Atma Ram Goel, the front of the house was made a shop which his nephew Manoj Goel used to repair gas stoves and cylinders. He said there was no proper ventilation in the house, which made it difficult to breathe as soon as the fire broke out.

Police said the cause of the incident is believed to be an electric short circuit. Atma Ram Goel and his nephew Manoj have been arrested in the case. Both have been booked under different sections.
