Jamia violence: Accused Furkan in police custody, interrogation underway

New Delhi: In the Jamia violence case, Delhi Police has taken an accused Furkan in custody. Local police detained Furkan on Thursday night and after that he was handed over to the crime branch. The crime branch is still questioning Furqan. Police say that investigation of the case is still going on. Currently, Furqan has not been arrested.

Violence erupted in Jamia and New Friends Colony on 16 December during protests by the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Many buses were torched and stones were thrown at the police. Furkan's name came up in this case. The local police took Furkan into custody on Thursday night. During this, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan reached the police station with some people.

Currently, another accused in Jamia violence Chandan Kumar has also reached the crime branch office. Chandan is a third year student at Jamia University. According to South East Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Chinmay Biswal, two FIRs at the Jamia Police Station and the Police Station in New Friends Colony after violent protests by students at the Jamia Millia Islamia University over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
