New Delhi: Resident doctors of almost all major hospitals in Delhi including Safdarjung, GTB, Loknayak, RML are going on strike from today i.e. As per the information received, there is no strike in all India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) during this period but resident doctors have categorically refused to give duty in OPD, Emergency and Covid wards in other hospitals. With all this, it is going to be very difficult for patients to get treatment. There are reports that senior doctors have been put on duty to maintain health services though during the strike a week ago, senior doctors did not appear in OPD or meet in emergency leading to the death of a female patient in Safdarjung Hospital.
On Last Thursday, resident doctors of GTB have reported going on strike from 9 am on Friday due to delay in NEET PG counselling. In a letter to the hospital management, the resident has clearly written that "he will not take any share in health services. Shortly after this happened, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML), Safdarjung, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Maulana Azad Medical College and Dr. Resident doctors of Bhimrao Ambedkar Medical College also joined the strike. Doctors here have reported that they are not present in all medical services. Let us tell you that the entire matter of NEET PG counselling is still sub-judice in the Supreme Court.
The court is scheduled to hear the matter next on January 6 but the doctors' protest has been going on for the past one month. When the strike started in Delhi hospitals on December 6, the Union Health Ministry, through its lawyer, had sought a few days' time from the doctors, appealing for priority for the hearing in the court. Doctors also suspended the strike for a week on December 9, but last Wednesday, the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (Forda) issued a late-night statement announcing that it would go on indefinite strike from December 17 and sought cooperation from resident doctors in different states of the country. In view of all this, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of different hospitals in the capital has announced to go on strike last Thursday.
