Donald Glover to headline, produce 'Spider-Man' film on villain Hypno-Hustler

LOS ANGELES:  Donald Glover will be the star and producer of a film based on the Spider-Man villain the Hypno-Hustler, joining Sony Pictures' roster of Marvel characters.

"Variety" reports that although the project is still in its early stages and without a script or director, Myles Murphy, Eddie Murphy's son, has been hired to write the screenplay.

One of Spider-less Man's well-known antagonists, The Hypno-Hustler can hypnotise his victims with his guitar and made his comic book debut in 1978.

He goes under the name Antoine Desloin during the day and is the main singer of the Mercy Killers, a band that performs for the purpose of robbing people.

The project almost probably won't include Spider-Man himself, as is the case with all of Sony's live-action Marvel films. The actor-musician has been a fan favourite to play the web-slinger since a 2010 piece by author Marc Bernardin pointed out there is no reason why Spider-Man needs to be white, thus Glover's involvement is notable for Spidey fans.

Finally, Glover had an appearance in the 2017 film "Spider-Man: Homecoming" as Aaron Davis, the uncle of Miles Morales, the Black adolescent who first appeared in Marvel comics in 2011 and later assumed the identity of Spider-Man. In the 2015 Disney XD series "Ultimate Spider-Man," Glover also provided Miles' voice.

Following Venom (2018), Morbius (2022), Kraven the Hunter (2023), and Madame Web (2024), The Hypno-Hustler is the most recent Spider-Man character from Sony to receive the feature film treatment.

In the upcoming episode of the Amazon Prime Video series "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," which he co-created and executive produces, Glover will co-star with Maya Erskine.
