Elon Musk's social media platform X has introduced its long-awaited 'Community Notes' program in India. This initiative allows users to actively engage in fact-checking tweets on the platform, aiming to foster a more knowledgeable digital space. The announcement came on Thursday through X's affiliated channel. The rollout of Community Notes in India welcomes new contributors to join the effort. X explains that Community Notes aims to counter misinformation by involving individuals from various backgrounds as note authors. The platform remains neutral, relying on collective contributions to evaluate content credibility. How to Join Community Notes To become a contributor, accounts must meet specific criteria set by X. These include having no recent rule violations, being a member for at least six months, and having a verified phone number from a trusted carrier not linked to other Community Notes accounts. Contributors can add notes by selecting "Write a Community Note" from the ••• menu on a post. After answering multiple-choice questions and providing context, the note will be accessible on the Community Notes site for others to read and rate. Notes flagging potentially misleading posts will appear on the post if rated helpful by enough people. Conversely, notes confirming a post's accuracy will be displayed as additional information but won't appear on the post unless marked as helpful. Helpful notes will be showcased on X for context, and contributors will earn Writing Impact. Contributors can delete their notes anytime. X imposes restrictions on the number of note proposals contributors can submit within 24 hours to uphold note quality and prevent spam.
