Social networking website company Facebook is working on its own new Internet satellite Athena. It can be launched at the beginning of 2019. The purpose of launching this satellite is to provide internet facility to millions of deprived people. A website report says that Facebook has filed an application called Pointview Tech LLC in front of the American Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Its objective is to connect millions of deprived people to the Internet. According to it, the project has been designed to provide broadband access efficiently to areas around the world where this service is not yet available. Facebook has agreed to work on the Athena project. The company spokesperson said that at present we do not have anything special to give information about specific projects but we believe that satellite technology will be a key basis for the future generation of broadband infrastructure. This will enable broadband connectivity in rural areas, where Internet connectivity is low or not. Two other companies are also competing for the same. Facebook is not the only company to work on enhancing Internet access through satellite. One web supported by Allen Musk's Space X and Soft Bank are two other major companies who are targetting the same.
