Fact Check: Modi govt giving laptops to 9th pass students for just Rs 450?

New Delhi: The central government is giving laptops to 9th pass Indian students for just Rs 450. This message is becoming fiercely viral on social media. A website called pmssgovt.online has claimed that students who are studying from class 9 to graduation will be given a laptop by the central government. They will have to deposit only Rs 450 as a registration fee.

At the same time, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has dismissed this viral claim and fact-checked that the central government has not started any such scheme. pmssgovt.online website claims itself to be the official website of the laptop scheme. PIB told by Tweeting that "A website http://pmssgovt.online/ is claiming to provide free laptops to students from class 11 to graduation in the name of 'Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Laptop Yojana 2022'. This website is fake. The Government of India is not executing any such scheme.''

The model of the laptop given to the students has also been told on the fake website. It has been told on the website that, ''The Government of India has decided to give HP Core i3 11th Gen (8 GB / 512 GB SSD / Windows 11) laptop to the students. The amount of PM National Laptop Scheme will be deposited in the bank account of the students in one installment in the first month of the academic session 2022-23.'' However, PIB has termed this claim as false, calling it completely baseless.
