New Delhi: Farmers agitating against three new agricultural laws brought in by the Central Government on Thursday opposed the recent hike in petrol, diesel and edible oil prices and demanded immediate halved prices. Farmers gathered with their vehicles along national and state highways between 10 am and 12 noon on the call of the United Kisan Morcha.
Farmer leader Lakhbir Singh said, "Today farmers protested for two hours against rising fuel prices. We want their prices to be halved immediately. The protesters had brought bikes, cars, tractors and other vehicles with them and sat on dharna.'' He said the demonstration was peaceful. The price of petrol has crossed Rs 100 per litre in Delhi and several other cities on Wednesday, while diesel is selling at Rs 89.59 per litre.
Another farmer leader Avtar Singh Mehma informed that the demonstration took place not only on the border of Delhi but also on several states and national highways in the country.
