Former CBI officer who was investigating Rajiv Gandhi's assassination case passes away from corona

New Delhi: Former CBI officer K Ragothman, who was the chief investigating officer in the murder of former PM Rajiv Gandhi, passed away on Wednesday following a corona infection. He was 76 years old.  He was admitted to a chennai hospital last week after being infected with corona virus and breathed his last this morning. Hospital sources have informed about the same.

Ragothman was an officer of the Special Investigation Team of CBI who had investigated the murder of former PM Rajiv Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi was killed in a suicide attack by a woman LTTE member at an election rally near Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991.  Ragothman has also written books on several subjects, including the Gandhi assassination incident. He also made a documentary called 'Human Bomb'. Ragothman's son-in-law Dr Shanmagavel said his mortal remains will be taken to his home area Ulundurpet for cremation.

Ragothman had been involved in the investigation into the rajiv gandhi assassination case for nearly 10 years. Murugan, Santhan, Perarivalan, Jayakumar, Ravichandran, Robert Paayas and Nalini were found guilty and sentenced to death in the case. However, the death sentence of all the seven convicts was later converted into life imprisonment.
