Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan Lauds Rahul Gandhi's Intelligence and Courage

New Delhi:  In a recent interview, former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan reiterated that his family opposes his entry into politics, emphasizing his commitment to academic pursuits and guidance over political ambitions. Despite persistent speculation, Rajan emphasized his role as an academic and his reluctance to engage in political activities such as "kissing babies." He stressed that instead of entering politics, he prefers to offer guidance where he deems necessary, irrespective of his official position.

Addressing rumors of a potential association with the Congress party, Rajan dismissed the notion of joining any political party. He affirmed his commitment to critiquing government policies, regardless of his affiliation, indicating a focus on providing constructive criticism rather than partisan advocacy.

Regarding his relationship with Rahul Gandhi, Rajan defended the former Congress leader against negative portrayals, emphasizing Gandhi's intelligence, bravery, and familial resilience in the face of tragedy. Rajan acknowledged Gandhi's leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the Congress's efforts in advocating for proactive measures to combat the crisis.

While critical of some of the Modi government's policies, Rajan refrained from endorsing Gandhi as possessing all the answers. Instead, he praised Gandhi as a reasonable leader with strong convictions, open to constructive debate and discourse.

The speculation surrounding Rajan's potential affiliation with the Congress gained momentum following his participation in Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in December 2022. However, BJP's IT department head, Amit Malviya, dismissed the significance of Rajan's involvement, attributing it to Rajan's aspirations to emulate former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Malviya criticized Rajan's commentary on India's economy as biased and opportunistic.
