New Delhi: Former Finance Minister and veteran BJP leader Arun Jaitley will be cremated at Nigambodh Ghat on Sunday afternoon. Jaitley passed away at 12.07 pm on Saturday at AIIMS. He had been undergoing treatment in the hospital for a few weeks. He was admitted to AIIMS on August 9. In the morning, his mortal remains will be taken to the BJP headquarters where leaders of political parties will bid him a final farewell. From there, the mortal remains will be taken to Nigambodh Ghat for cremation. Earlier on Saturday night, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Home Minister Amit Shah, interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi, and several other politicians paid tributes to former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at his residence in South Delhi on Saturday. Shah spent three-and-a-half hours at Jaitley's residence. Leaders of various political parties and BJP workers and their fans bid their last farewell to Jaitley. Jaitley's terrestrial body was placed in a glass coffin. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and External Affairs Minister S.K. Apart from Jaishankar, senior BJP leader L K Advani, party executive chairman J P Nadda, among others, bid a final farewell to Jaitley. Apart from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ahmed Patel, Digvijay Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Rajiv Shukla, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and his son Chirag Paswan also bid their last farewell to Jaitley.
