NEW DELHI: Nitin Gadkari, the minister of roads and highways, said on Tuesday that he has directed departmental officials to hunt for a common charging scheme for electric buses made by various companies. Gadkari said, states are having issues as electric buses of different companies have different charging systems. "The transport minister of Himachal Pradesh informed me of the issue with various charging systems for electric buses produced by various businesses. Speaking at the Mindmine Summit, he remarked, "I have instructed my officers to look for a solution as there should be one charging system for electric buses of different businesses." Gadkari emphasized the importance of promoting the use of mass rapid transit systems. "We need to deter people from buying additional cars... In major cities, we must launch air-conditioned trolley bus services," he said. Within one or two years, the cost of electric cars (EVs) in the nation will be comparable to that of gasoline-powered vehicles, Gadkari said. Gadkari went on to say that the government's goal is to lower the current logistic cost of 14–16 percent of GDP to 10% of GDP by the end of 2024. The minister noted that green hydrogen is the fuel of the future. Gadkari makes big announcements on road construction projects.
