Modi government gives major setback to Captain Amarinder Singh, read report

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has been dealt a major blow by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. The centre has set up a high-level committee four days ago to address the growing farming crisis in the country and achieve the target of doubling farmers' income by 2022. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has been excluded from the committee.

Punjab's entire economy is dependent on farming. Experts have wondered if Punjab's CM is excluded from the core group. Experts say it looks like this High Powered Committee is a purely political committee.

The committee will be headed by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadvis. The committee will give its suggestions on policy changes, attracting investment and increasing food processing. The committee also includes chief ministers of Karnataka, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chandra will also be members of the committee. The committee has been asked to submit its report within two months. The committee will also oversee the Essential Commodities Act to promote private investment for marketing and infrastructure of agriculture.
