Govt takes major action against GST thieves, 8000 people across country to suffer bad

Jaipur: The government's crackdown on goods and services tax evasion (GST Theft) continues to grow. In the same vein, 8,000 cases of theft of GST worth Rs 35,000 crore have been unearthed in financial year 2020-21. During the last financial year, 426 people, including 14 professionals, such as CA, lawyers, were arrested for GST theft. Efforts by the CGST Zone and the GST Intelligence Directorate have succeeded in detecting the theft.

The CGST has sent a strong message to tax evaders by arresting four persons, including Praveen Jagid, the mastermind of the Rs 1150 crore fake bill issuance by forming 100 fake companies in the state. Now preparations are also being made to reach out to traders who collect fake bills in this case. Action will be taken against those to whom the accused had issued fake bills. A separate team is being formed and a raid is being planned for this purpose.
