New Delhi: Within just 24 hours after the Gujarat High Court ordered her to surrender immediately, the Supreme Court has given a big relief to Teesta Setalvad, accused of conspiring in the Gujarat riots. In fact, only yesterday i.e. on Saturday (July 1), while rejecting Teesta's bail plea, the High Court had ordered her to surrender before the court immediately. Against which Teesta immediately went to the Supreme Court and there her petition was heard on Saturday night itself and she got immediate relief. The Supreme Court has said that we stay the order of the Gujarat High Court. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the Gujarat government, strongly opposed Teesta's relief in the Supreme Court, but the court did not listen to him and gave Teesta Setalvad seven days to file regular bail. That means neither Teesta will surrender nor she will be arrested in these 7 days. On the other hand, if she gets regular bail in the meantime, she will remain out of jail. Let us tell you that Teesta is accused of conspiring and fabricating fake evidence to implicate innocent people in the Gujarat riots. In the same case, she was also arrested on 25 June 2022 after registering a case in the Crime Branch of Ahmedabad Police. However, even at that time the Supreme Court granted her interim bail. Teesta has been out of jail since then and now after one year she applied for regular bail, on which the Gujarat High Court ordered her to surrender. As per reports, Teesta recently filed a petition in the Gujarat High Court for regular bail. In this, while hearing on Saturday, the Gujarat High Court had rejected her petition. Claiming in the court on behalf of the Gujarat government, it was said that if Teesta Setalvad gets bail, then she can destroy the evidence. Along with this, Gujarat government's lawyer Mitesh Amin had told the High Court that the case against Teesta Setalvad is also going on for tampering with the evidence and spreading propaganda on the basis of it. He claimed that Teesta Setalvad had received Rs 30 lakh from late Congress leader Ahmed Patel. Teesta Setalvad was working as a tool of Congress leader :- According to the report, the Gujarat government told the court that this amount was given to Teesta Setalvad after the 2002 Godhra riots to destabilize the Narendra Modi government by tampering with evidence and spreading propaganda. After the 2002 riots, Teesta Setalvad has been accused of running a propaganda with the intention of framing Narendra Modi and others after the 2002 riots. Not only this, during the hearing of the case, the Gujarat government clearly stated that Teesta Setalvad has acted as a tool for a leader (Ahmed Patel of Congress). Advocate Mitesh Amin told the High Court that Setalvad, along with police officers RB Sreekumar and Sanjeev Bhatt, had conspired to destabilize the Gujarat government and for this propaganda was run. Witness Rais Khan also testified against Teesta:- The claim of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Gujarat government was also mentioned in the court. In fact, the SIT had said that it has collected evidence in its investigation, which shows that Teesta Setalvad had received financial help from a political party leader. It may be mentioned that earlier on these grounds, the Gujarat government had opposed Setalvad's bail in the sessions court as well. A witness in this case Rais Khan was also mentioned by advocate Mitesh Amin before the court. Mitesh said that Raees Khan had also spoken about Teesta Setalvad being a part of the conspiracy. Congress leader gave 30 lakh rupees to Teesta Setalvad:- He told the court that Rais Khan had said in his statement that Ahmed Patel and Teesta Setalvad (the then Congress Rajya Sabha MP) had met at the Circuit House in Ahmedabad. In this meeting, Ahmed Patel had told Teesta Setalvad that it should be ensured that some people are punished and go behind bars. The lawyer, while reading Rais Khan's statement before the court, said that some police officers also had a role in the matter. Apart from Raees Khan, the lawyer also referred to the statement of Narendra Brahmbhatt. At the same time, in the chargesheet filed in the court, Teesta Setalvad has been told to get Rs 30 lakh from the Congress leader. Teesta Setalvad wanted to become Rajya Sabha MP :- At the same time, the SIT probing the matter had told in its affidavit filed in the court that in the year 2007, the Congress government at the Center had given Padma Shri to Setalvad. The SIT told that Teesta wanted to become a Rajya Sabha MP. The SIT cited a witness who claimed that Setalvad asked a political leader why when Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar were made MPs, why not her. According to Teesta, Shabana and Javed Mian-Bibi got a chance? Why am I not being made a member of the Rajya Sabha?
