Hundreds of migrant laborers, who were troubled by the lockdown in Surat of Gujarat, came out on the streets on Friday night. These people were demanding arrangements to send them back to their homes. During their fierce demonstration, workers also burnt several vehicles. The police chased down the arsonists and took the situation under their control.

According to the police, hundreds of migrant laborers took to the streets on Friday night due to lockdown in Surat's Laskana area. He was demanding that proper arrangements should be made to return to their homes and to pay their dues as soon as possible. An official said that some of these workers, who were protesting, set fire to vehicles and vandalized it, demanding to be returned to their home state. To prevent the agitation, police arrived and took some laborers into custody. Then the situation came under control.

According to sources, many migrant laborers have become unemployed here due to the lockdown. They demand that the government should allow them to return to their homes. A senior health official said that the incident of arson took place in just one day, after the report of 116 new cases in Gujarat on Thursday night, the number of coronavirus cases in the state has increased to 378. He said that this is the highest increase in cases during 24 hours. While two deaths have also occurred during this period, a total of 19 people have died in the state so far.
