Guwahati: The Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA) has ordered a complete ban on fireworks bursting and sale in Guwahati by the end of this month along with Diwali to reduce pollution amid the Corona epidemic. In its order, the board said that this decision has been taken due to increasing pollution in the city and poor air quality. The order stated that from midnight of 9 November 2020 to midnight of 30 November 2020, the sale and use of all types of firecrackers in Guwahati city will be banned. After this, the situation will also be reviewed. In other areas except Guwahati, green firecrackers have been allowed to burn for just two hours (from 8 pm to 10 pm) on the day of Diwali. On other festivals like Chhath, Christmas and New Year, firecrackers can be boiled from 6 am to 8 am and from 11.55 to 12.30 pm. The order states that the DM and SP will implement these orders. Simultaneously, a report of action taken every day will be presented to the Pollution Control Board, Assam. However, the State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the government has no plan to ban firecrackers during Diwali as Hindus have the right to celebrate the festival.
