NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued predictions of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country until 7th August. As per the IMD forecast, there are warnings of very heavy rains in East Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur. Moreover, the weather office predicts heavy rains in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, East Rajasthan, Jammu, and Madhya Pradesh. Heavy Rainfall in Delhi and NCR: Today, heavy rainfall has been lashing parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), including Noida, leading to waterlogging near the Badarpur metro station in Delhi. Rainfall Expectations in Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh: In Maharashtra, moderate rain is predicted in most places in North Konkan, while South Konkan-Goa is likely to experience light to moderate rain. Additionally, North Madhya Maharashtra and a few places in South Madhya Maharashtra, along with isolated areas in Marathwada, are expected to receive light to moderate rain. In Himachal Pradesh, IMD issued a yellow alert for the next 4-5 days with predicted moderate rainfall in the state for the next 48 hours. The intensity of the rain is expected to decrease after August 6. So far, the state has received 70 percent of its total monsoon rain from 1st June to 4th August, as reported by IMD. Surender Paul, Head of IMD Himachal Pradesh, while speaking to news agency ANI, said, "There are regular landslides and flash floods; we have issued alerts for landslide and flash floods in Sirmaur, Solan, and Shimla districts. It will continue in the near future. We are expecting the rainfall to persist during the next 48 hours in the state." The death toll in rain-related incidents and road accidents in the hilly state since the onset of the monsoon on June 24 has now reached 200, with 238 people sustaining injuries and 32 still missing, according to the latest data provided by the center. Situation in Odisha: Odisha recently experienced heavy rains, triggering floods that affected over four lakh people in 21 districts. However, the situation is now "under control" as the water levels of the rivers have started receding in the absence of rains. The rain and flood have damaged 2,329 houses, and around 52,000 people were evacuated from low-lying areas, as per the Odisha government's information. The state has reported two fatalities due to the rains. Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi may experience isolated heavy rainfall during 4th-6th August. East Rajasthan is predicted to receive isolated heavy rainfall on 4th and 5th August. Jammu is expected to have isolated heavy rainfall on 5th August, 2023. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over East Uttar Pradesh during 4th-7th August and over Uttarakhand during 4th-6th August, along with West Uttar Pradesh on 4th August. Central India: Isolated heavy rainfall is highly likely over Madhya Pradesh on 4th and 5th August. Northeast India: Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur during the next four days, as stated by IMD. South India: IMD predicts subdued rainfall activity over the South region during the next four days. Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu on 5th August.
