High-voltage electrocution during a procession near Thanjavur causes 11 death

Tamil Nadu: On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, eleven people, including three boys, were killed in a high-voltage electrocution accident during a religious procession in Kalimedu.

According to investigations, the victims were taking part in a cart procession organised in memory of Tamil Saivaite saint Thirunavukkarasar by a local prayer club formed and run by the villagers for more than nine decades when the accident occurred.

The decorated hand-pulled cart was making its way back to the hall following the conclusion of the night-long procession that began on Tuesday night. While ten people died on the scene, 13 others were taken to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.  Later, around 7 am., Bharanitharan (13), one of the injured, died in the hospital, as per reports.
