Kolhapur: India's first Hind Kesari Shripati Khanchnale, who elevated the country's name nationally and internationally, is no longer in this world. He has died today i.e. Monday morning. In fact, he had been running ill since the month of November and was admitted to the Civil Hospital a few days ago. Recently, the Kolhapur Health Department has given information in which they have told that 86-year-old Khanchanale has died due to health problems related to old age.

Shripati Khanchnale was very famous in Maharashtra and Karnataka. He started learning wrestling at the behest of his father.
He became 'Hind Kesari' by defeating wrestler Rustam-e-Punjab Bata Singh in Delhi on 3 May 1959 and, thereafter, he won the title of 'Maharashtra Kesari' by defeating Anant Shirgaonkar in wrestling in Karad. Not only this, the Maharashtra government honoured him with the 'Shiv Chhatrapati Award', while the Karnataka Government gave him the 'Karnataka Bhushan Award'.
