Srinagar: Senior separatist leader and Hurriyat Conference chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is among the detained leaders who have bonded with the authorities for his release. Top intelligence sources have told the media in Srinagar that, 'This happened about a fortnight ago. Separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is among those arrested in the house who have bonded for his release. Sources have said that in the confession of these leaders it is mentioned that once the preventive detention is removed, these people will not take part in any activity that spoils law and order in the valley. Significantly, on August 5, after removing Article 370 of the Constitution giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir, about 40 mainstream leaders including former Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were placed under house arrest. Among these house-arrested leaders, officials have detained former CM Farooq Abdullah under the Public Safety Act, which provides for the provision of detaining any person for two years without judicial intervention in the state. At present, Abdullah has a PSA for three months.
