Hyderabad: Pvt School derecognised after sexual assault on 4-year-old

HYDERABAD:  The Telangana government decertified a private school in Hyderabad on Friday after learning that the principal's driver had sexually molested a 4-year-old girl there.

P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, the minister of education, gave the Hyderabad District Education Officer the order to revoke DAV Public School's recognition. The minister instructed DEO to make plans to transfer the students  to other reputable schools, nevertheless, to ensure that their education would not be impacted. She requested that the DEO take all necessary measures to relieve the parents' concerns.

The minister of education further urged the authorities to prevent further occurrences of this nature. She announced the formation of a committee to make recommendations to the government on how to protect schoolchildren's safety and security.

The committee, whose chair will be the education secretary, will provide the government with its report within a week. She promised that after the government received the findings, it will take the necessary steps to protect schoolchildren.

Three days after the school's principal's driver was detained by the police for allegedly sexually assaulting an LKG student, the minister issued the directive. The teacher was detained for carelessness as well. The school principal's driver was detained by Banjara Hills police on Tuesday for sexually assaulting the young victim. The police detained the principal on Wednesday for negligence after protests from the victim's family and others. Police said Beemana Rajani Kumar (34), who was detained, was jailed. He has been charged with violating sections 376A and B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, section 6 read with 5(1)(m). The victim's parents were aware of the occurrence when they noted changes in her behaviour. She said that Rajani Kumar had been sexually assaulting her for the previous three months when they investigated. He used to drive her between physical and virtual classrooms. At some point, the defendant led her to a room inside the school, forced her to take off her clothes, and abused her sexually.

Parents and other relatives of the victim, furious after hearing about the incident, hurried to the school and attacked the driver. The cops later detained him.

The parents also organised a demonstration calling for the detention of the principal, S. Madhavi. She was detained by police as well, and she was charged with negligence under section 21 of the POCSO Act.

On Thursday, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan requested a report on the incident from the state legislature. After reading several media headlines about the incident, she became very upset.

The governor asked for swift action to be taken against the perpetrator of the horrific crime and expressed her shock and great sadness over the occurrence. She has asked the government for a thorough report on this occurrence.
