New Delhi: Indian Railways' first private train Tejas Express gained Rs 70 lakh in the first month of its operations in October. According to sources, Tejas Express earned around Rs 3.70 crore from ticket sales during this period. This train runs on Lucknow-Delhi route. It is being operated by IRCTC, a railway company providing online ticketing, food and tourism related facilities. To improve the railways, the government has set a target of making 50 stations globally and awarding the contract of 150 passenger trains on the railway network to private parties. Tejas Express is a part of this plan. The train ran for 21 days from October 5 to 28 in October. It is served six days a week. During this period the train runs on average with 80-85 percent seats. IRTC's cost of running it in October will be around three crore rupees. This subsidiary company of Railways has earned an average of Rs 17.50 lakhs per day from this state-of-the-art passenger fare, while spending Rs 14 lakhs. Facilities like food, free passenger insurance up to Rs 25 lakh and compensation on postponement are available in Tejas Express.
