India mandated RT-PCR tests for travellers from China, 5 others

NEW DELHI: The Union Health Ministry has mandated that travellers from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand undergo RT-PCR tests prior to departure due to the global resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Ministry issued a statement on Thursday stating that beginning on January 1, 2023, international passengers flying from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand to India will be required to submit to RT-PCR tests before leaving these countries/destinations and upload the Covid negative RTPCR test report on the Air Suvidha portal.

The test should be conducted within 72-hours prior to their journey to India, the statement read.

This requirement is apart from the random 2 percent tests of all international passengers upon their arrival in India regardless of the port of departure.

India recorded a total of 268 new cases of COVID in the past 24 hours on Thursday. 3,552 cases are now active in the country, which represents 0.01 percent of all positive cases there. The positive rates were 0.17 percent for the week and 0.11 percent for the day.
