India PM speaks with S.Korean president-elect Yoon, pledge to deepen ties

New Delhi: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol, and the two leaders agreed to strengthen and deepen the India-Korea special strategic relationship, particularly in light of the current global situation.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Yoon on his victory in South Korea's recent presidential elections.The leaders agreed that strengthening and deepening the India-Korea Special Strategic Partnership is critical, especially in the current global situation, according to the statement.

Modi and Yoon reviewed a number of areas where bilateral cooperation might be accelerated and agreed to collaborate in this regard. The leaders also expressed their intention to commemorate the 50th anniversary of India and South Korea's diplomatic relations next year, according to the statement.  Yoon has been asked to visit India at his earliest convenience by Prime Minister Modi. Yoon, a former top prosecutor, has been elected president of South Korea, succeeding Moon Jae-in.
