India has taken a significant step in strengthening its ties with Mauritius by opening its first overseas Jan Aushadi Kendra. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, together with Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, inaugurated the facility on Wednesday. "Delilghted to inaugurate the first overseas Jan Aushadi Kendra in Mauritius alongside Prime Minister @KumarJugnauth. This center fulfills the promise made by PM @narendramodi earlier this year," Jaishankar shared on X. He further highlighted that the health partnership project aims to supply affordable, Made-in-India medicines to improve public healthcare and overall well-being. Jaishankar's visit to Mauritius, which lasted from June 16 to 17, included several notable events. One of the highlights was the opening of a modern medical facility in Grand Bois, funded by an Indian grant. This facility, serving over 16,000 residents, will provide essential secondary healthcare services. Jaishankar described the medical center as a testament to the strong friendship between India and Mauritius. Additionally, the visit saw the virtual inauguration of 12 India-assisted Community Development Projects, further enhancing the development cooperation between the two nations. Earlier on Wednesday, Jaishankar inaugurated the Mediclinic project at Grand Bois in Mauritius, funded by an Indian grant. He referred to it as the "newest expression of friendship" between the two nations. During his speech at the inauguration, Jaishankar highlighted that this initiative will offer secondary healthcare services to 16,000 residents in the Grand Bois area.
