Indian Army Captain Deepak Singh Killed in Terrorist Encounter in Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi: Captain Deepak Singh of the Indian Army tragically lost his life during a fierce encounter with terrorists in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials have confirmed.

The clash began when the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police launched a search operation following initial reports of terrorist activity. Captain Singh, serving with the 48 Rashtriya Rifles, was leading his team at Shivgarh Dhar in Assar when he sustained fatal injuries during the engagement.

Captain Singh's sacrifice is part of a larger conflict in the region. Over the past 40 days, eleven security personnel, including a CRPF jawan, have been killed in operations against terrorists in the Doda and Kathua districts. This includes the loss of two Army captains.

The security forces had initiated a counter-terrorism operation late Tuesday night in the Akar forests near the Patnitop tourist area, straddling the border between Udhampur and Doda districts. Gunfire erupted on Wednesday morning as personnel engaged the concealed terrorists within the forest.

Terrorist groups in the mountainous Jammu division have been conducting surprise ambushes targeting the army, security forces, and civilians. During the ongoing operation, security forces succeeded in injuring one terrorist and recovering an M4 carbine along with ammunition. The discovery of bloodstains and abandoned equipment indicated the intensity of the firefight.
