Indian Navy's training centre to resume in J&K after 33 years

Srinagar: The Indian Navy has resumed its training area at Manasbal Lake in the Ganderbal district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir after 33 years. It was shut down after militancy flourished in the erstwhile state. Officials said the facility at Manasbal Lake was excellent for naval training of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in Jammu and Kashmir. However, due to the poor security situation, it had to be abandoned in 1989 and the training centre was shifted to Mansar Lake in Jammu.

Officials said the naval training area has been resumed after a long gap of 33 years as the security situation in Kashmir improved. A suitable camp with adequate infrastructure has also been provided by the Manasbal Development Authority and two training boats have been brought here from Mansar. Brigadier KS Kalsi, Commander, NCC Group, Srinagar, said at the training site that this is an important occasion and a special day for NCC in the Kashmir Valley.

He further said that NCC training activities are resuming at this beautiful place of Manasbal Lake after a gap of 33 years. He said 100 NCC cadets, including girls from various colleges of Jammu and Kashmir, are participating in the camp.
