IndiGo issues advisory, passengers to reach airport 3.5 hours early

NEW DELHI: Indigo Airlines issued a travel advisory asking passengers to reach the Delhi airport at least 3.5 hours prior to domestic departures, amid the increased rush of air-passengers.

Due to the heavy traffic in the Delhi airports, check-in and boarding times are expected to be longer than usual. For a quick security check, passengers should be at the airport at least 3.5 hours before domestic departures, and they should only bring one piece of hand luggage that weighs 7 kg. "Please make certain that you complete your web check-in, for added convenience," it said.

The airline also advised passengers to use Gates 5 and 6 to enter Terminal 3 of the Delhi Airport because they are the closest to the IndiGo check-in booths.

Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of civil aviation, paid an unexpected visit to the Delhi airport on Monday amid growing complaints about the turmoil and improper crowd control there. Senior authorities and the Minister took notice of the numerous factors, and they gave the airport operator and the officials instructions to act right away to improve crowd control.

In the meantime, complaints about Delhi's lengthy lines kept coming in.

With over 1,100 flights per day, Delhi Airport is one of the busiest in the nation. T3 is the busiest of the terminals. The operators have also been asked to divert aircraft from T3 terminal to other terminals due to the heavy traffic during peak hours.
