IPL 2021: Mumbai lost their first match for consecutive 9th time

Chennai: The 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Mumbai Indians (MI) has already suffered a setback at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the first match. RCB beat them by 2 wickets in the match played in Chennai. Mumbai Indians have lost their opening IPL match for the 9th time in a row. They are facing defeat in the first consecutive match since 2013.

In Friday's match, RCB captain Virat Kohli won the toss and called Mumbai to bat first. Mumbai got off to a bad start. Rohit Sharma's first wicket falls at just 24 runs. Chris Lynn then shared a 70-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav for the second wicket. Lynn scored 49 runs. While Suryakumar played an innings of 31 runs. With this, Ishan Kishan also scored 28 runs.

With the help of these three batsmen, Mumbai scored 159 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Harshal Patel took 5 wickets for just 27 runs for RCB. In reply, RCB got off to a good start. their first wicket fell for 36 in 4.2 overs. Rajat Patidar, playing his first match, could not do much, he was dismissed for 8. Kohli then shared a 52-run partnership with Maxwell. De Villiers took over after Kohli and Maxwell were dismissed. He scored 48 off just 27 balls to lead the team to victory. He also got run out in the last over. but RCB somehow managed to take the match on their side. Harshal Patel got Man Of The Match for his carrier best performance. He took one-sided 5 wickets for RCB even after giving 16 runs in his 1st over.
