IPL 2022: Brian Lara and Dale Steyn join Sunrisers Hyderabad, get key responsibility

New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday added West Indies great Brian Lara and South African fast bowler Dale Steyn to their support staff ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Lara, who usually does commentary during the IPL, will serve in the coaching department of SRH. He has been made strategic advisor and batting coach. The team announced this through social media.

Steyn, who has played for many other IPL teams including SRH, has been made the fast bowling coach. He had announced his retirement earlier this year. Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan will continue as the spin bowling coach. Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has returned as head coach. Trevor Bayliss of Australia resigned as head coach after the 2021 season. Moody was SRH's director of cricket last season.

Former Team India batsman Hemang Badani has been made the fielding coach while Simon Katich, head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has been made assistant coach. SRH has retained three players, captain Kane Williamson, Umaran Malik, and Abdul Samad, ahead of the mega auction in February. SRH finished last in IPL 2021.
