HYDERABAD: On the 115th birthday of former Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy paid tribute to the freedom fighter on Tuesday.

Former Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the weaker classes Babu Jagjivan Ram fought for India's independence, a casteless society, and equality in the country, said Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). He said, the Telangana government is working hard to eliminate the state's socio-economic inequities affecting the Dalit community. The state government has developed the famous Dalit Bandhu scheme to economically elevate the underprivileged classes, taking inspiration from Jagjivan Ram.

The CM said that the state government's plethora of Dalit empowerment programmes boosted the Dalit communities' self-confidence and socio-economic self-respect. Jagan Mohan Reddy paid a heartfelt homage to Jagjivan Ram as well. He said that the late leader had devoted his entire life to serving the people. Jagjivan Ram's contributions as a Parliamentarian and Deputy Prime Minister, according to the Chief Minister, would be remembered forever.
